Jay-Z has started his album promo early in the game. He started a big discussion in Hip Hop with D.O.A. and got The Game dissing him over his Blueprint 3 intro. With the anticipation building for the next Jay-Z album, would if be a good idea for 50 Cent to drop the same day and enjoy some free promo from the played up duel? Can we agree going against Kanye West boosted his sales?

New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne is once again being sued by a promoter for being a no-show.

Weezy is facing fresh embarrassment in a lawsuit over a missed gig in the Bahamas – promoters of the show allege he was too drunk to take the stage.

The Lollipop hitmaker was hired by Red City Entertainment and given a $210,000 advance to perform for 5,500 fans in Nassau last September (08).

When he didn’t show for the concert, police were called in and allegedly found the star passed out in his hotel room.

“This was targeted as a showcase for Lil’ Wayne,” said Glenn Gitomer, a lawyer for the New Jersey promotions company.

“Then police found him intoxicated in his hotel room…It was a great expense just to accommodate him.”

Nas Speaks On Tenth Album, “I’m Trying To Have Peace And Love”

Nas‘ last studio album (originally titled “N*gger“) sparked some major controversies with everyone from 50 Cent to Bill O’ Reilly.

Although the marketing plan worked for the most part, Nas claims that he wants his next LP to be focused on happiness and love.

Nasir has been involved as of late in a surprisingly public legal conflict with his ex-wife Kelis over numerous issues, including child support.

It’s funny; drama is something that definitely kicks a fire underneath artists,” Nas tells Billboard. “But I try not to make that my focus. I’m trying to have peace and love.” “My shit right now is age-appropriate for myself. I love everything, most of the things that are going on musically. But my music will talk about what I see, how I see it, and it should be interesting. My last things were about what I felt about hip-hop and what I felt about race matters. This new thing will be a natural thing. I have a few things that I feel like doing, but who knows what it will be.”

Nas, currently performing on the Rock The Bells tour, says that he is currently wrapping up the project with Bob Marley-offspring Damian “JR Gong” Marley, and that when “Distant Relatives” is complete, he will resume work on his LP.

He also believes that the collaboration album will help to shape hip-hop back into what it was when Nas first stormed onto the scene.

I think it is headed in a good direction,” he says. “Everybody is trying to beat the life back into it. People are forced to beat the life back into it because it’s either that or, if hip-hop dies completely, then it’s our fault. So no one wants that on their shoulders. No one wants that on their brain. We have a responsibility to keep this shit crunchy. That means a lot to fans and people, and we should care more about the music.”

Kelis claims Nas raked in $11 million for his album deal. Nas fired back in legal papers, “I did not receive even half that amount”… claiming it’s more like $4 mil. Nas claims his income is declining, and he’s only pulling in $147,165 a month.

Nas thinks $5,000 a month is reasonable for child support since the kid will just be a newborn.

Papoose Cause Of Violence In NY Prison?

Papoose

New York City jail officials are investigating a Rap concert by Papoose, which may have been the catalyst for several instanaces of gang violence.

According to the New York Post, jail warden (and fan of Papoose) Emmanuel Bailey allowed the Brooklyn emcee to do a nearly two-hour show at Rikers Island on May 30, 2006.

New details have emerged from the previous report. In the months following the show, there were eight slashings and stabbings at the prison. It is believed that Miguel “Dough Boy” Jeffrey, a rival of Papoose‘s, ordered attacks on the rappers’ imprisoned friends.

Dough Boy used to work with the rapper until the two had a falling out over musical issues. In retaliation, he shot at the rapper’s entourage and allegedly stole a $40,000 gold chain from one of Pap‘s relatives.

An ex-Blood, Dough Boy became incensed after Papoose shouted him out at the end of the concert, leading Dough Boy, who is serving 12 years for armed robbery and assault, then ordered the attacks.

Bailey has been reprimanded for not getting the proper approval to host the show, thought it is unclear how.

A procedural step may have been missed,” said department spokesman Stephen Morello said. “That doesn’t mean the handling of this event involved venality, corruption or a lack of competence.

Lil Wayne Sued For Cancelled Show, Manager Responds

Red City Entertainment has sued New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne over a September 27, 2008 cancelled show in the Bahamas.

According to TMZ, Red City had planned on paying Weezy $432,000 for the show, and had given him an advance of $210,000. However, Red City representatives allege Wayne was found in his hotel room “unconscious” at the time he was supposed to be performing.

The rappers’ manager Cortez Bryant has spoken out on the issue, arguing the cancelled show was a rescheduled performance from the day before.

Our show was set for September 26 last year. We arrived on time, ready to perform and learned that due to lack of payment from the promoters, the sound company they had hired packed up and left the venue before Wayne was scheduled to hit the stage. So they were forced to cancel the show. On those grounds, at that moment, they were in breach of contract and forfeited their deposit,” he said in a statement to AllHipHop.com.

Explaining that Wayne had agreed to reschedule for a performance the next day, Bryant said the promoters failed to follow proper procedures that satisfied their contract. “When I arrived at the venue, the security was horrible, causing it to be an unsafe environment and the sound system wasn’t up to our contracted standard.” Continuing, Bryant stated, “I then told the promoters Wayne wasn’t coming because they didn’t have their setup to a contracted standard for the second night in a row.”

Red City Entertainment is seeking $432,000 in the lawsuit.
